Yopping Update #41 - going backwards?

Here I am  on a cloudy Sunday afternoon realizing I need to do my non-update for Year of Projects.

Do I sound pathetic?

A little, yes.

I continued to walk the puppies (who are 14 and 12) everyday. I have amassed 23.46 km and a whole bunches of steps.  So at least I am earning some Carrot points towards a free movie.  Carrot is a Canadian app that tracks your steps and sets you challenges and if you make your step quota each day (mine is currently 7700 steps) then you earn points towards movies.  I already have enough points for 10 free movies, but still it keeps me motivated to keep trying to earn my carrot every day.

I have seen eagles, herons and even a ring necked pheasant on my walks, plus lots of robins and hummingbirds.  And the island seems overflowing with beautiful yellow daffodils everywhere!

I did try, and succeeded, in learning something new with knitting.  Since I find that knitting really aggravates my right arm I wondered if knitting backwards, which means knitting from the right needle to the left needle might alleviate the aggravation.

Here is my progress:

I did figure out how to both knit and purl and cast on backwards so I am pretty proud of myself for that.  Unfortunately it still hurts my arm so I put it away.

I bought myself a healing bracelet that I am wearing on my right wrist to remind me to do things with my left arm.  The dark stones are lava and it is recommended to put some essential oil on the stones - I chose thieves oil which is suppose to be an anti-inflammatory and also is suppose to boost your immune system.  It is worth a shot.

I chose this one because of the purple beads - and then read the card:

That's right.  Hummingbird heart.  My totem speaks to me everywhere.

My cooking experiments have been going quite well - I have made these vietnamese rolls three times already this week, and I am making them again tonight. I also made the peanut sauce to dip them in.

There have been some lovely mossy walks:

and a couple of glorious ocean walks as well.

My son has been sending me encouragement: (his artwork)

and when I get really discouraged about things I always have these faces to cheer me up.

I am heading home tomorrow.  I miss my hubby - I love hearing his voice on the phone every night but it will be even better to hear it in person.

Lent will be over in a week and I will be back on facebook and instagram to see what I have been missing - oh and I can start baking those chocolate chip cookies again next Sunday.  I wish the lenten fast of swimming and knitting would also be over, but I am not that much of an optimist. Sigh.

  3. Sorry to hear knitting is not an option still. I hope you can get some answers when you get home. Your photos of your walks are so lovely. You have some lovely scenery where you are right now.

Your grandbaby is so precious. That smile is heart warming.

I have knit backwards a couple of times when it came to purling. It is not easy so I am impressed you did so well. Not glad to hear it still hurts your shoulder.

I am sure your hubby will be glad to have you home also. Your cooking has been wonderful to watch. He might like a few of those items you have cooked.

    Have a marvelous week!

  4. Perhaps left handed cross stitch is something you could manage? By the time your right arm is better you’ll be ambidextrous. In the meantime it’s great you are being so present in your walks and noticing the wildlife, that’s supposed to be as meditative as knitting if you are taking in the sights and sounds.

    1. I have a top to alter - I think sewing on the machine is doable as my curtains will attest to, and the top is much lighter than the curtain material to heft.

    2. Sounds like a good idea, Ruth has been sewing some lovely tops recently and I was wishing I hadn’t donated all my patterns to charity in a clear out I did some years ago.

  5. I know it feels like you have nothing to update about but I really do love checking in each week with you Mary-Anne and discovering what new things you've been up to this week. First ohhhh my gosh that smile! That couldn't but cheer anybody up, what a sweetie. The views from your walks are just stunning and well done on the walking goals and being motivated.
Now what a great challenge to knit backwards and congrats on meeting and accomplishing that goal! I would not have thought of that one!
I think you may find you've missed nothing on the social media front but I do hope the fast from swimming and knitting ends soon for you.

    1. Yes, my fb and ig fasts have been good for me because I don't miss it at all. I think I will find nothing of import has been happening there.

  7. thank you for the baby picture! so cute and her mom too. i'm so sorry you are still having problems with your arm. I always feel when we are forced to give up something we love it is because we are being guided to something else. It's been true in my life and I have often gone very begrudgingly but sometimes even years later it becomes clear that it was for the best and sometimes it is only temporary to divert our attention to some thing else. What a beautiful place to walk and to have 2 companions to escort you is the best! Keep those baby pictures coming...they grow so fast!

    1. Yes I believe this too. When a door closes a window opens. I do believe this, but in the throes of it it is sometimes hard to see.

  8. Backward knitting -- now that's amazing! I'm sorry it didn't solve the arm issue though. Your pictures of your walks are amazing, and add me to the fans of those two little cuties.

  10. You have achieved many things during your time away puppy-sitting, fitness, new skills and self-reliance. I have enough trouble knitting forwards let alone backwards! Doing things with your non-dominant side are handy skills to have. I get the sense that you are disappointed with 'nothing to update' yet you have given a lovely update. I worry that your determination to knit is going to set your healing back because it seems to aggravate it each time. Crochrt might be a little kinder (depending on your action) but it might be best to focus on the walks, yoga and reading. If you do learn to crochet backwards, please teach me! ;-)

I look forward to reading the comments. It makes me feel like I am not just posting into the void.
