Yop Update eight - Nothing to see here

The title of this blog might be a tad misleading.  I don't have any finished objects to show but that doesn't mean there hasn't been knitting, and other things.

I have finished all the pieces of Monsieur Bookworm, but alas he is languishing in a pile of pieces waiting to be sewn together.

And because I didn't feel up to sewing him together (such fiddly work) I start the Lemur and got his body done

before....

I felt the urgent need to cast on my Antarktis with my new MaryAnnes Sparkle yarn.

And then, since I just felt the need for a challenge I signed up for Knitterarium's latest test knit, which meant I HAD to go buy some lace yarn for the contrasting colour to the lace I showed you last week.

I hand wound the lace I got last week - 1200 yards - and it took me the good part of an hour.  My yarn winder doesn't like large balls of lace so the is why the hand-winding.  On the plus side I know what I am asking my husband to get me for my next birthday!

I have finished the first repeat and I am half way through the second, but I can't show you my progress because it is a secret until the pattern is published.  The deadline  is September 11, so that will be my focus this coming week.

So that is my week - a little of this, a little of that.

Oh, and I got my haircut.  Nice and short for swimming. There is a new pool close to my house that is fantastic.  I am getting to the pool every other day for a good mile swim.  I love it.

I also bought a swim-buddy so my husband can keep track of me when I head out on a lake or in the ocean.

It is tied around my hips and floats behind and above me so boaters , paddlers, but mostly my husband, can see me from afar.

And I finally booked an appointment for a tattoo next week which I will unveil to you next Sunday.  I have wanted this particular tattoo for about 16 months - and, well, no time like the present.

Let's see, what else?

We picked 33.5 pounds of apples off of our tree last night - so I will be freezing apples for winter pies (and eating lots just as they are).

So there is my week.  I guess the title was a tad ironic!  To follow my other wonderful yopping companions click here

  1. Hi Mary-Anne :) I love the photo, you look so cute!! I'm really envious of your swimming. We have a lake here but it's filled with boats all the time, isn't very safe by the public dock. I used to love going swimming in the lake every day, but even now it's a bit too cold. Look at those apples!!! Nice haul! Can't wait to see your tattoo!! :)

    1. Apples are in fridge until I feel like tackling them. (except the eating ones - I am definitely tackling those!)

  3. I'd never even heard of the swim-buddy before reading your post, but I love the idea! Is it comfortable to swim with? Right now, most of my swimming is in the public city pool near me, but if I'm ever back up at the family cottage, it would be amazingly useful.

Also, all the apples! I'm a major lover of apple pies, so I'm now officially jealous. :)

    1. It is comfortable to swim with - as it floats just above and behind your knees.

  4. What a great idea the swim buddy is. Anxiety reducing for those on shore.
Sparkly knit is gorgeous. It looks so happy that it makes me smile back at it..
As does that lovely photo of you.
Now, you see, I couldn't stand to leave that book worm all flat and bitsy. If I lived nearby, I'd be your stitch buddy. I enjoy the fiddly work.

  6. Yummmmm apple pie!! I love the look of your Antarktics shawl and look forward to seeing the bookworm when finished. I hate sewing up things so avoid amigurumi projects like the plague. Love the look of them all though. The swim buddy sounds like an excellent idea. Hope you're happy with the new tattoo.

  7. Yes, your title was misleading....you had lots and lots to show! Love your animals that you are knitting and your new yarns....scrumptious! The apples are such a blessing and a curse as you must do something with them so they don't go to waste. The Swim Buddy is such a great invention! Love the short 'do'....so easy to take care of and looks so nice on you too. Good for you with the swimming. I am not a swimmer but it is supposed to be one of the best all around exercises you can do for your body. I preferred riding horses but since i have no horses anymore I'm not getting that wonderful exercise...oh well. I can't wait to tune in next week and see what you've accomplished! Great projects! Have a great week! Happy Eclipse!

  9. You have a veritable yarny workshop going there, Mary-Anne. Even in pieces, Monsieur Bookworm has a bit of a distinguished look to him. Maybe it's the tweedy jacket sleeves, or the hint of a mortar board cap. I'm looking forward to seeing him finished most of all, I think. ;^) I love your short hair. I'm pining for the day I feel comfortable getting a pixy cut. So cute!

    1. Yes, I know, I have been told that women of a certain age shouldn't have short hair - but I love it! Did you notice the bookworms's nose? He is gonna be cute once I get him together!

  11. Swimming is the best exercise. I have been fighting the closure of my nearest hydrotherapy pool. It would be okay if there were other accessible hydro pools nearby but there are not. Still, there is a large group of pool users affected who are protesting loudly for access to community pool services like hydrotherapy.

I look forward to reading the comments. It makes me feel like I am not just posting into the void.
