Longest Labour Ever - Introducing White Rabbit

Link to Amazon here

She is here.  Out in the world taking her first breaths.

It was conceived as a challenge accepted in November of 2015 - to write a novel of a minimum of 50,000 words.

Then editing.

And putting it away.

And pulling it out.

And re-editing.

Finally by the summer of 2018 to start to hand it out to beta readers.

And to edit again.

And to put it in the drawer again.

Finally in the late summer of 2021 to be encouraged to just do it.

And I did.

In early September I tackled setting up an account with Kindle Direct Publishing.

I navigated the forms, the tax implications, the formatting.  Oh, the formatting.

And editing, Over and over. (Editors deserve our respect is all I can say).

Then on October 6, 2021 with my heart in my throat I phoned my sister.

All I had to do was press the button.

She and I held our collective breaths and I pressed PUBLISH.

Then I had to wait a few hours for Amazon to accept my novel...my baby.

Almost six years from start to finish.  I have read and re-read this novel dozens of times and still there are parts of it that make me cry even though I know how it turns out in the end.

The premise is fictional, but many of the chapters are my stories to tell, and now I have told them.

If you are interested in purchasing that would be great.

If not, that is okay too.

Just be kind.  She is mine and I love her.  I am being brave. Depression lies.  I want the world to know that and if one other person sees themselves in the pages, and finds some solace, or acknowledgement, or recognition or hope then I have succeeded.

  3. Congratulations, Mary-Anne. If I can find a way I'm comfortable with downloading a kindle book (I don't have a Kindle, or Kindle app), I hope to buy your book. I've always appreciated what you write.

  4. Hi Mary-Anne,
Oh wow! Congratulations on the completion of your novel! That is so awesome!
I'm feeling sheepish as I revisit your blog after a long absence - I have spent the most of the past two years offline and become quite disconnected from my friends in the blogging community (of which I hope you are still one!). There were many reasons including issues around my physical and mental health. Knowing what I know now about the challenges that mental illnesses bring, I have so much respect and awe for your strength and determination to actively blog every day (no mean feat in itself), and to bring your novel to fruition. Your novel is a mighty achievement. I am super thrilled for you and look forward to supporting you by purchasing and reading it. For my friends who struggle with depression, I will certainly bring it to their attention too. I don't have a kindle but I am sure there is an e-format out there for me.
I am sorry to have 'gone to ground' in order to manage during the pandemic, especially for disappearing without notice at a time when I should have been reaching out the most.
I am grateful to see you are still posting, surviving and achieving amazing things, Mary-Anne! Take care,
    Jodie

    1. Dear dear Jodie. So great to hear from you and thank you for the supportive words about my novel and life. I have sent you a private message on Ravelry with my email address so perhaps we can stay in touch easier that way as we both navigate life.
