Button Button

There is this amazing little store in Gastown called Button Button.

I could spend hours in there, and many dollars.

Look what I did today.

I bought 1 pound of Buttons to start my own button jar,

plus a package of buttons I just couldn't resist cause the container was so cute,

plus some wooden buttons that I am certain I will have some use for one day – and I could paint them if I wanted

plus buttons for my sweater I just finished (which is why I went in the first place).

I found the perfect buttons right away, and now I am more than ever determined to wear this sweater.

Wool – Free
Pattern – Free
My time – Free
Buttons - $22.00

Finished Product – Priceless!

And look at my button jar now:

That was how I spent my Friday.

You?

  1. Oh I love your button jar. when I was young my Mum used to have one (much smaller than yours).I would love to see a picture of your finished jumper, I know you posted a pic when it was 3/4 done as you were not sure if it would fit. BTW I love the crochet throw I can see in the background. You are so talented, I keep saying it but I really MUST take up knitting again,

  2. Hello fellow Vancouver blogger! Popped in from Joke this morning and found that you've been to one of my favourite shops! Lovely buttons make such a difference to a piece of clothing, don't they? You know what I sometimes do? Buy a vintage something, replace the buttons and it looks so high fashion! Love it. Anyway, I'll be back, just wanted to say "hello". x

  3. I have my grandmother's button tin... Whenever I was home sick from school it was my favourite companion. I would sit in bed with a tray and sort, thread, admire... Thank you , Mary-Anne ... I'm gonna blog about this... But enough about me... Does the sweater fit??? Are you gonna have to wear it to one memorable event and then hand it on after it shrinks??? Those buttons are perfect. Photo of finished unfrogged cardigan please.

  4. Didn't answer the question... Spent Friday on long long walk with youngest dog to ease frustration that damn 3-year-old fridge died and mechanic cannot get part for 10 days... Remembered 20-yr-old fridge was still in shed coz No.1son no longer needed it... Voila... It works! But now I'm gonna get lots of exercise between the upstairs kitchen and the fridge about 100 metres away... Sigh

    1. they don't make things like they used to that is for sure. Glad you are looking on the bright side of the 100 metre journey!

  5. I used to buy a one pound bag of buttons at Zellers for not much. They were immensely useful in a primary classroom. Kids would sort by colour, size, shape. I made up bags of tens and then ten bags of tens to teach place value and addition and subtraction with regrouping. And then those buttons became the foundation of my collection which is big. But I don't always find the ones I need for a finished project and then have to go buy just the right ones. Maybe I should donate them to a primary classroom.
